Patrick
Happy New Year, good to hear from you.

Budget - Thanks for forwarding your comments concerning the budget estimates.
As stated in the Budget Note introduction (which I assume you also received),
since there are a significant variables which must be established during the
Planning Phase of the project, it is expected that these estimates will have to
be greatly refined. Therefore, this is an indicative estimate to be used for
budgetary purposes only. At this point there are many variables (annex 1 of
the Budget note) which greatly effect the cost such as DAP model type, data
management, data preservation, services provided, number of accessions, etc.
We did put a general figure for hardware and software costs but this would
depend on how comprehensive a programme would be implemented ie number of
users, document types etc . Unfortunately at this point, without going
through a major exercise and make some fairly substantial assumptions, I think
this is the best we can do for now. Could it be to high? yes definitely;
could it be to low? yes, definitely.

UNICEF - funny you should mention the background documents. As the RFP is
completed and we are waiting for it to be issued by UN Procurement, I have been
rounding up the background documents of annex 5 from all the agencies. I am
working on UNICEF (which lists over 40 documents) and have about half. By the
end of the week, I hope to have substantially collected what ever is
available. Since some of the documents are quite voluminous, perhaps we could
meet early next week and go over the entire list (annex 5) and see what you are
interested in and make copies.

As far as the metadata, I suggest we wait for Adhiratha, who will be back 3
February from annual leave, to discuss UNICEF's practices in more detail.

Thanks

Dhurjati,

I forward to you short comments I sent earlier to Rosie regarding the
budget.

On another issues, i would be interested to have access if possible to
selected policies on document management issued by UNICEF (as listed in the
annex 2 "Background documents for the UNPOs Digital Archives Programme" that
you sent me some time ago.

I would also be keen to discuss with you on the phone or in person about
metadata, either in terms of current practice within UNICEF, or as part of
the planning under the DAP

Could you give me your phone number.

Cheers

Patrick
